Cheeky croc finds a new home

A 3.8-metre crocodile lurking around the Maningrida boat ramp was this week relocated to a safer place by the Bawinanga rangers.

The saltwater crocodile was a threat to children and dogs that play on the beach near the boat ramp, which is also used to deliver produce from the barge.

Rangers had placed a baited trap near the boat ramp and successfully secured the crocodile before winching the trap onto the back of a tilt tray.

The crocodile was driven 25 kilometres to his new home in a freshwater creek.

The delicate operation saw the crocodile trap winched on a steep angle into the creek, allowing the crocodile to simply slip out into his new waterway.

Rangers checked his condition the following day and saw that he was happily mobile again.
